✦ FAQ ✦
Online I Ching Divination — FAQ
How free casting works, how to read the hexagram, and how I Ching differs from Bazi — answered up front.
Is online I Ching divination free?
Yes — casting a hexagram and reading the AI-powered "free preview" is free: 3 free previews per day for guests (no signup), 5 per day after you sign in, resetting at 00:00 UTC. The in-depth "full reading" (with per-line texts, nuclear/opposite/inverse hexagrams and a concrete action plan) is unlocked per use with yarrow-stalk credits. No subscription, no hidden fees, and signup is optional.
What can the I Ching answer? Can I ask about career, love, and money?
The I Ching is best for **concrete, near-term decisions** — questions where you actually face options. Typical scenarios:
• Career: Should I take this job offer? Switch industries? Start a business now? Stay on this project?
• Love / relationships: Stay in this relationship or move on? Reach out to an ex? Make the first move?
• Money: Is this investment worth it? Take on the side project? Partner with this person?
• Other crossroads: Apply to a school? Switch fields? Move now?
Not a good fit for: ① open-ended "what will my future look like" questions with no real options; ② medical or safety-of-life decisions (see a professional — this is not medical advice); ③ asking the same question over and over hoping for a different answer.
The hexagram isn't a prediction — it's a mirror for the choice in front of you. This site uses AI to interpret the hexagram, line texts and five-element relationships, but the decision is always yours.
How do I read a hexagram? What do the 64 hexagrams mean?
A hexagram consists of six lines read from bottom to top — each line is either yin (broken "--") or yang (solid "—"). The bottom three lines form the lower trigram, the top three the upper trigram, and the 64 hexagrams arise from pairing the 8 trigrams. Every hexagram has a judgment text and per-line texts; we surface the primary hexagram alongside its changing, nuclear, opposite and inverse hexagrams plus an AI reading so you can triangulate the meaning from multiple angles.
How do I use this online I Ching tool? What are the steps?
Three steps: ① On the home page, type your question into the input (the more specific the better); ② Click "Cast" — the site simulates six tosses of three coins to produce your six lines; ③ The hexagram and AI reading appear automatically, with the primary / changing / nuclear / opposite / inverse hexagrams and per-line text for cross-reference. No app install required; guests get 3 free casts per day, 5 per day after sign-in.
Is this the same as Zhou Yi, Wen Wang Gua or the coin oracle?
Essentially yes. The Zhou Yi is the core text of the I Ching, so "Zhou Yi divination" and "I Ching divination" refer to the same system. Casting six lines with three coins is the classic coin-oracle method (jin qian gua), traditionally honored as "Wen Wang Gua" after King Wen, who is said to have arranged the 64 hexagrams. This site uses that same three-coin method, then interprets the hexagram through the original judgment and line texts with translations.
What should I keep in mind when asking about love?
Stay calm before casting and make your question specific (e.g., "Is this relationship worth continuing?" rather than vague "How is my love life?"). Ask one question at a time and avoid repeating the same question. Treat the hexagram's guidance as a tool for reflection, not absolute prophecy.
How is Bazi fortune different from I Ching divination?
Bazi (Four Pillars of Destiny) reads your "innate life chart" — derived from your birth year, month, day and hour, it analyzes the balance of the five elements, ten gods structure, and luck cycles, giving a long-range view of your life trajectory. I Ching divination, by contrast, addresses a specific question in the present moment (e.g., "Should I take this job offer?"). The two are complementary: Bazi shows the big picture; I Ching answers immediate decisions.
How do I check my annual Bazi fortune?
On our Bazi fortune page, enter your birth date and time (solar / lunar / ROC calendar all accepted) and birthplace (chosen as a latitude band, used for the 調候 climate adjustment). Your Four Pillars chart, ten gods, five-element pattern and 用神/忌神 are computed locally in your browser, with annual and luck-cycle trend charts across wealth, love and health dimensions. Your birth data is never sent to the server — all chart computation happens on-device.
